WELCOME TO MSM ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Mission Statement

In 2001, MSM Economic Development was founded on the basis of self-sufficiency. We are a California-based 501(C) 3 non-profit corporation. We wanted to develop a non-profit organization that could make an immediate impact on people’s lives, without the bureaucratic delays so many government agencies and departments experience. By joint venturing with other non-profits, we have been successful placing homeless families, training and educating, providing teenage pregnancy counseling, and assisting senior citizens.

Our goal is to help a community that is in so much despair. The potential of the low-income residents in underserved Los Angeles communities is vibrant and healthy. MSM is committed to providing support, through our programs and partnerships, thereby helping to stabilize and rebuild the economic base of a community that has been down for so long.

Our mission statement is “empowering one’s self through education, ownership, and self awareness.”

PROGRAMS
MSM has fostered relationships with the City of Los Angeles Housing Authority. We are one of only 56 organizations certified by the L.A. Housing Department Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) to bid on city development projects and funding. We are also proud of our most recent partnership with Magic Johnson Foundation, a major sponsor of our “Hearts Giving Back” program.

MSM has four programs that are currently the cornerstone of our organization, with more on the drawing boards. The programs were formed to have a significant, positive impact on low-income families in our target community.

• Our high school scholarship program is an excellent program with many incentives for students to continue their education. MSM awarded its first scholarships in July 2003. See coverage.
• Our multi-housing program is a far-reaching program with clear vision and passion for the future of affordable housing in our community.
• Hope’s Place, our emancipated foster youth group home, is a start-up operation in progress.
• Hearts Giving Back is a distribution program where MSM provides free clothing, furniture, and small appliances to needy families. With the assistance of Magic Johnson Foundation MSM plans the first major distribution in November 2003.
